Matt has been teaching private music lessons for over 10 years, bringing a wealth of experience and a unique, empathetic teaching approach to every student.​ Attending Berklee College of Music, Matt has not only honed technical skills but also developed an understanding of the pedagogical needs of diverse learners, including those with special needs. Matt’s teaching philosophy centers on harnessing each student’s curiosity, making the learning experience both fun and effective. With a calm persistence, Matt works through setbacks with students, ensuring they understand that their goals are attainable and progress is within reach.

In addition to private lessons, Matt has led music therapy groups and performed extensively, both as a solo artist and with numerous local bands. Matt’s expertise spans a variety of genres including jazz, rock, pop, blues, funk, and country. By encouraging improvisation and exploration, alongside a solid foundation of rudimental and technical understanding, Matt creates a balanced and engaging learning environment. Passionate about teaching students of all ages and abilities, Matt is excited to be part of the Chappaqua community and to help make music a wonderful part of your children’s lives.

Chris Walker

Drums

Chris Walker is a percussionist and pianist with a background of over twenty years as a performer and music educator. After earning his degree in jazz performance, Chris spent twenty years as a professional musician developing his experience across a variety of settings. Most notably in this time he played drums in both a jazz trio and a lounge band on Carnival Cruise Lines, and he was also signed to Bar None records with his band Breakfast In Fur. As a member of Breakfast In Fur, he toured extensively including a feature at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas in 2015. Their critically acclaimed album Flyaway Garden was released on Bar None records that same year, receiving a score of 7.6 from Pitchfork.

Chris also has a master’s degree in music education and is currently an elementary and middle school band teacher in Westchester. Along with being an accomplished drummer, Chris is also an avid pianist and has over ten years of experience teaching private lessons on the drum set, piano, and on all band instruments. His depth of knowledge covers all styles including jazz, pop, blues, funk, country and classical. His teaching approach encourages discovery of melody, harmony, and rhythm through improvisation and exploration, alongside a solid foundation of rudimental and technical understanding. Chris especially enjoys teaching young beginners on flute, clarinet, trumpet and piano, while covering all levels and genres on drum set and percussion. He is excited to be a part of the Chappaqua community and to help make music a wonderful part of your children’s lives!
